Keratoconus Group is now 18 years old

Our keratoconus community is now 18 years old! Thank you all for making this community such a great place to learn about keratoconus, discuss its challenges, and get support. Thank you for the knowledge you share, and for understanding when no one else does.

Our community, which began as a small group in 2007, has grown into the largest online network for individuals with keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, post-LASIK ectasia, and those who have undergone corneal transplants. Today, our forums are home to more than 50,000 patients and eye care professionals, providing a space where members can ask questions, seek support, and share knowledge.

It is incredibly rewarding to see how the idea of spreading keratoconus awareness has strengthened each year. Over the past eighteen years, what started as a small support group has evolved into a global community with more than 51,000 members on Facebook and Reddit, along with over 44,000 followers on social media.

Connecting with others who have firsthand experience with what you're going through can significantly alleviate feelings of isolation, fear, and hopelessness. Maintaining motivation and a positive outlook becomes much easier when you have a supportive network to rely on during tough times.

Thanks to our dedicated volunteers and the thousands of contributors who share their knowledge and experiences on our forums every day, our keratoconus community has become an invaluable resource for both patients and eye care professionals.

Be part of our growing Facebook Group where keratoconus patients, families, and eye care professionals come together to share knowledge, ask questions, and build a stronger, connected community.

What is Keratoconus?

Keratoconus (KC) is a degenerative condition of the eye in which the normally round, dome-shaped cornea becomes progressively thinner. this causes a cone-like bulge to develop in the area where the cornea is thinnest- usually in the center.

Keratoconus occurs in about 1 out of every 2,000 people in the general population and it is found in all parts of the world and in all ethnic groups. If left untreated, Keratoconus could lead to significant visual impairment and legal blindness.
